Why do you think you can win this pageant? ›

Talk about your plans for the future and how this pageant title will help you accomplish those goals. Talk about what you bring to the pageant, and what makes you stand out from other winners. Talk about leadership and what characteristics you think pageant winners have, then relate that back to your qualities.

The winner, determined by a panel of judges, is awarded the title Miss America and at least $50,000 in scholarship money. As the titleholder, she then embarks on a yearlong national tour to advocate for a social issue she has chosen.

Contrary to the winner-takes-all model, Miss America offers a $50,000 scholarship to the titleholder. Additionally, the top 15 finalists, along with various category winners like talent and interview scholarships, receive educational grants.

Texas has produced more Miss USA winners than any other state, according to Pageant Planet. Ten Texas queens have won the national title. In second, California claims six former titleholders, while New York, Hawaii and Illinois have produced four titleholders each.

Possible awards of beauty contests include titles, tiaras, crowns, sashes, bouquets, scepters, savings bonds, scholarships, and prize money. Some pageants have awarded college scholarships to the winner or to multiple runners-up.
